Apr. 23rd, 2007 10:57 amThis weekend I started a yoga for weight-loss 4-weekend workshop at First Street Yoga in Newberg. Z is taking it with me, and our first workshop was pretty good. Basically it involves physical aspects of yoga, with the breath excercises, and some discussion of ourselves, weight loss, and body issues. Mostly a standard yoga class designed so that people of different body types/sizes can do it and feel comfortable though. I haven't done a whole lot of yoga in the past. I did some while I was in high school, and that was mostly combined with drama centering and warm-ups. I also took a free class from this yoga studio, and liked it but didn't have the time and money to continue taking classes at that time. When this workshop magically coincided with 4 consecutive weekends where I could be free on Saturday morning, I knew it was a sign! ;-) When I look at older people who do yoga, I generally see people who are much more centered, more flexible, more in-shape (though of their *own* shape - not gym "perfect") and in touch with themselves, than most other people I know of a similar age. This makes me think that I should do yoga, because I would like to have those same qualities as I get older.
Other accomplishments this weekend include hunting down and purchasing a dress to wear at my cousin-in-law's wedding in May. I managed to fine an absolutely delicious sun dress in floaty deep indigo and gray-white silk. Hanksan even managed to find me a scarf/shawl in the exact same deep blue, and he bought me some little heart shaped star sapphire and white gold earrings to go with it. Now I just need to figure out where I stashed my star sapphire necklace and find shoes and I will be all set for huge trendy family wedding of doom. Which, inconveniently, is on the Friday night of May Crown, which means I will be driving up on Saturday morning minus the Hanksan. :-P
One other cool thing this weekend - I spent part of Sunday in the forge with dad working on hinges to sell through Historic Workshop LLC. I haven't pounded any hot iron in a while and it felt good. This session was mostly learning what we were doing and how to work together, so we didn't get a whole lot done, but we figured a bunch of things out so should be set to get more done next Sunday.
