Mmmm Mead

It is really hot today, and we worked a LOT on the house this weekend, so we took tonight off. I also ditched fighter practice because of the heat and my state of exhaustion. Instead, we stayed home and I made tacos and salsa with fresh purple, orange, roma, and beefstake tomatoes, tomatillos, onions, and garlic, all from our garden. Since we have been working on the house almost every evening I haven't had much chance to cook or even visit the garden, so it was really nice to have a little time at home. I also decanted some of the meads I have had sitting in the back room, and I was pleasantly surprised by their progress. The strawberry mead is mellowing nicely. It is still not at optimum age, and it still has a little bit of a bitter aftertaste, but it has a nice nose and is quite smooth going down. The blackberry mead is STRONG. It is also more alcoholic and less sweet than I intended, but it is quite good. No weird aftertaste, but could use a little more time to mellow. This is definitely Hank's favorite (he "ish happpyy to tashte tesht ittt," he says). I think these will both be really good next spring, but until then I am sure we will enjoy more "sampling" to make sure. ;-) The rest of my plans for the evening include sipping more mead, doing some hand sewing on Nobu's corset, starting to weed out my wardrobe in preparation for fall, and surfing the web in search of neat steam punk odities.
