It is day 9 of the cold from hell.... Ick... Day 2 was the worst. Days 3 & 4 were still pretty icky. And now it just keeps hanging on... :-P Today I finally resumed exercise. More specifically I resumed the couch to 5k running program, from which I have been on hiatus during the frikkin' cold. I had to take a couple coughing breaks and blow my nose a lot, but I did the program, didn't throw up, and didn't kill the dog. And I feel better about having done *something*.

In other news, I am looking at MFA programs in Sculpture and Glass again. I am also looking at certificate programs in welding and machine shop stuff (that would be a technical term, "machine shop stuff"...). I am not sure if I am going to pursue either option, but I am thinking about them.

Next week is the Glass Art Society conference, here in Portland. The glass blowing demonstraitions are all being held at the shop where I am taking classes, so everyone is running around crazily painting, cleaning, building ramps and moving shelves. I am looking forward to the various activities and demos. So who else will be there?

I wish I could go, but I decided to look into taking another glass class in the nice, well ventilated studio this summer instead. Take pictures and tell me about everything!

I bet glass is fun to work with. I've done some enameling and was shocked at how cool and fast it was.

I thought about getting into welding, but after talking to some welders of my acquaintance, I decided that the wear and tear on my shoulders wouldn't be worth it. I'm sure it depends on what you're working on.

Go Glassy! Go Sculptury! Extra points for combining the two!

Enjoy the plastic creativity of the whole experience! Wish I was there for it all...

Yeah, we've been doing battle with the summer cold thingy. Fortunately I think we're kinda winning. Hope yours clears up soon. :)

An MFA is madness, unless you're doing it just for Intensive Study In Glasswork. But I'm sure you know that already, being so clever.

Certificates in welding and machining aren't madness. Mmmm, machining.

The idea of playing around with cool machining tools is very tempting... just think of the cool stuff I could make... but welding is probably a better option for me, seeing as my father and I actually co-own a very nice welder, I have been wanting better welding training for years, and it will help me with my art stuff as well as make me employable somewhere other than an office... mmmm... yup, leaning in that direction...

Ooh, tell me more about the Glass Art Society conference... where do I go and when?

It is this Thursday - Saturday. Here is a link: http://www.glassart.org/portland.html
Sadly, to go you have to join the Glass Arts Society. Which isn't *that* expensive, but is still a membership fee, plus a hefty fee for the conference (I think it was $200 something for the whole thing, or their are day rates).

Oh, so a lot of the galleries in town are having special shows related to the conference, which may be worth going to even if you don't go to the conference. I think their are links from the site... but I am too lazy to go look. :-)
