Knee Update
May. 6th, 2007 12:22 amI had an appointment with my knee doctor on Tuesday, and a bone scan. The resulting info is that I do have an accelerated amount of wear in my knees, but not so much that he thinks I definitely need surgery. At this point it is up to me and what I want to live with. He is willing to do surgery if I want to do something about the pain aside from just taping my knees for the rest of my life and don't feel like putting up with my current level of pain. I have been doing physical therapy and it has helped with my climbing but not with walking or sitting for long periods of time, so the next step is surgery. Which I think I am going to do, but probably not until the fall. It will be a 45 min out-patient arthroscopic surgery, with me walking and driving again in 3-5 days, and back to being able to do most things in a month, and back to 100% hopefully in about 3 months. My physical therapist told me that she thinks I should do it. Considering that she was really trying to convince me not to do it when I first went in, it is significant that she has totally changed her mind after working with me for over a month. My knee still hurts horribly when I go for long walks without taping it, and any improvement would be great. If it works well, I may also consider doing my right knee at some later point.
