I got an abstract for my thesis accepted to the PSU Undergraduate At History Symposium (actually a national event that not all that PSU students get their work into) but now I need to finish a 8-10 page truncated version of my as yet uncompleted thesis by April 14th. In some ways this is good because it means I will get a lot of work done on my thesis. It also means I will be busy for the first weekend in May.
For those of you that don't know, I am also going to be having a show at first friday in Newberg on the first friday of May. It is going to be at Cindy Rose Photography.
My cat managed to kick off his bandage last night while I slept, so I had to begin my morning by once again taking him into the vet where they gave him a yet bigger and more heavily taped bandage (this one is bright yellow). Apparently if he manages to kick this one off they will do an even bigger one (who knows what more horrendous color it will be then). All free of charge, except for the emotional strain on me.:-P
Well, fencing was fun yesterday, even if we havn't actually got to fight. We were going over the basics of how to hold a sword, advances and retreats, all that good stuff. Pretty boring but in other ways good. Since everything was broken down into really small steps to make sure we were doing things right it did help me critique what I remember. Basically, while I still can advance and retreat correctly and hold a sword well, it made me aware of *why* it is right and what mistakes to look for. I do foresee many comments of, "bend your knees" and, "foot out!". Sigh, just like the old days. Now if I only remember how to actually fight. I still retain some of the old fencing muscles or at least discipline though - I can certainly keep a good an guard stance longer than most of the class. :-)
I want a helm. I am bummed that for war archery you basically need to have heavy armor now. But if I had heavy armor I could fight heavy. But then I would suck and I hate not being good at things. Sigh. I can't have it both ways I guess. But I really need a good helm that is not twice as tall as my head and with good visibility if I am not going to completely suck. I am such a frikkin weakling. I really want someone to train me in heavy fighting not just toss me out into a practice and expect me to some how magically learn things.
We are covering some basic silk screening in my alternative mixed media super duper advanced drawing class, so I will have a chance to use the silk screen inks Brian and Ursula got me even before I have to buy my own screen. Yay!
